Diet Chart for Piles Patients: Food To Eat and Avoid in Piles

Piles is a condition in which veins around the rectum and anal opening gets dilated and swollen. In this condition the patient passes suddenly streaks of bright red blood with the stool. The size of the piles can vary and they are found inside or outside the anus. Piles can occur due to chronic constipation, chronic diarrhea, lifting heavy objects, pregnancy or straining when passing a stool.

Causes of Piles

According to Ayurveda, well balanced Vata Dosha keeps the bowel contents moving correctly. Since it is a drying Dosha, its aggravation can cause the bowel contents to get dried and unable to move properly causing constipation. Vata Dosha causes constipation that is rough and dry with painful black coloured haemorrhoids. Piles occur due to the dominance of Pitta and Rakta. 

Diet  Chart for Piles Patients

To get rid of piles, a proper diet plan is mandatory to heal the damaged tissues in the body. One should consume a high fiber diet while suffering from piles. Fiber creates bulk in stools and provides relief from hard stools. Also avoid intake of oily and spicy foods to prevent gastrointestinal problems. Follow the given diet schedule to get relief from Piles.

Early Morning- Warm water + 1 tsp Flax seed/ Aloe Vera juice/ Wheatgrass juice

Breakfast- Veg Idli/ Veg Seviyan (Vermicelli)/ Veg Upma (Semolina)/ Veg Daliya (Broken wheat porridge)/ Oats/ Missi Roti/ Stuffed Chapati/ Chapati with Veg or Dal

Mid-morning- Coconut water/ Herbal tea/ Fruit juice/ Fruit/ Coconut milk/ Lemon water/ Prune juice

Lunch- Chapati/ Brown rice with Vegetable +  Dal/ Chicken (once a week)

Evening- Vermicelli/ Homemade soup/ Roasted chane/ Green tea/ Herbal tea/ Sprouts

Dinner- Chapati + Vegetable + Dal

✔️ Cereals: Little millet, Buckwheat, Pearl millet, Foxtail millet, Finger millet, Amaranth, Sorghum, Brown rice, White rice, Wheat

✔️ Flour ratio: Wheat Atta (50%) + Ragi flour (30%) + Soybean Atta (20%)

   ❌ Refined flour and its products
✔️ Fruits: Grapes, Orange, Pineapple, Sapodilla, Sweet lime, Orange, Custard Apple, Litchi, Mango, Figs, Pomegranate, Coconut, Pear, Peaches, Avocado, Muskmelon, Watermelon, Banana, Apple   ❌ Banana (Over use), All canned and packed fruits
✔️ Vegetables: Carrot, Spinach, Mushrooms, Kale, Cauliflower, Cabbage, Broccoli, Radish, Coriander, Red Onion, Tomatoes, Eggplant, Celery, Ginger, Pumpkin, Sweet Potato, Zucchini, Bitter gourd, Bottle gourd, Okra, Yam, Potato, Fenugreek leaves, Peas   ❌ All canned and frozen vegetables
✔️ Pulses: All pulses and legumes   ❌ Nil
✔️ Dairy Products: Buttermilk, Cottage cheese, Yogurt, Curd, Cheese, Tofu, Low-fat milk   ❌ Condensed milk, Cream cheese, Full-fat yogurt, Whole milk and cream, Unpasteurized cheese
✔️ Spices: Carom, Cinnamon, Fennel, Ginger, Turmeric, Coriander, Cumin   ❌ Red chilies, Peppers

✔️ Flesh foods: Skinless chicken, Lean meat, Grilled fish, Roasted chicken, Egg white   ❌ Processed and fried meat, Red meat -(Beef, Lamb, Pork). Fishes (Tuna, Bluefin, Marlin, King Mackerel, Swordfish, Shark and Tilefish)

 

✔️ Seeds and Dry fruits: Cashew, Pistachio, Peanuts, Hazelnuts, Walnut, Ground nuts, Raisins, Almonds, Sesame seeds, Sunflower seeds, Flax seeds, Chia seeds, Pumpkin seeds   ❌ Nil
✔️ Oils: Rice bran oil, Mustard oil, Olive oil, Canola oil, Sunflower oil and Cow ghee   ❌ Coconut oil, Palm oil, Butter and Cream
✔️ Other foods: Honey and Jaggery   ❌ Artificial sweeteners, Pickles, Junk food, Fried food, Bakery and Processed foods, Refined sugar, Packed soups

  2. Don’t skip meals especially the breakfast
  3. Consume high fiber diet
  4. Eat whole fruits rather than fruit juices
