Diet Chart for Slipped Disc Problem

A slipped disc is a condition in which a soft cushion of tissue between the bones in your spine pushes out. It becomes more painful when it presses the nerves. 

The signs and symptoms of the slipped disc include pain and numbness in the back, worsening of pain at night, muscle weakness, sensation of aching, burning in the affected area, pain while walking for short distances.

Causes

Causes of slipped disc problems may include ageing, obesity, injury, occupations demanding lifting of heavy weights. Injury or weakness can cause the inner portion of the disc to protrude through the outer ring. 

Diet for Slipped Disc Problem

Dinner – Missi Chapati/ Ragi Chapati with Vegetable + Dal/ Salad (without salt)/ Grilled fish/ Chicken/ Tofu/ Nutri-nuggets (once a week)

✔️ Cereals: Whole wheat flour, Oatmeal, Whole grain bread, Whole grain cereals, Porridge brown rice, Finger millet rice, Soya flour, Jowar chapati❌ Barley, Corn, White rice, White breads, White refined flour and its products, Maggie, Macaroni, Pasta and Noodles
✔️ Fruits: Bananas, Oranges, Papaya, Grapes, Prunes, Grapes, Prunes, Dates, Apricots, Pineapples, Strawberries and all other fruits❌ All canned and packed fruits
✔️ Vegetables: Potatoes, Tomato, Spinach, Dandelion greens, Okra, Kale, Turnip greens, Collard greens, Green pepper, Red pepper, Parsley, Asparagus, Lettuce, Artichokes, Squash, Pumpkin, Carrot, Turnips, Broccoli❌ Coconut, Jackfruit, Yam, Taro root, Sweet potato, Pear, Mustard leaves, Cabbage, Lemons and Frozen vegetables
✔️ Pulses: All pulses, legumes, soybean and its products❌ Dried and frozen pulses
✔️ Dairy products: Low-fat cream, Tofu, Yogurt, Buttermilk, Curd, Cottage cheese, Low-fat milk, Soya milk❌ Condensed milk, Cream cheese, Full-fat yogurt, Butter, Whole milk and cream
✔️ Spices: Green chilli, Black pepper, Turmeric, Coriander, Thyme, Carmon, Cumin, Sesame seeds, Fennel, Salt (very less quantity)❌ Excess salt
✔️ Drinks: Almond milk, Soya milk, Lime water, Clear vegetable soup, Milk, Fortified juices, Tomato soup, Buttermilk, Smoothie, Tea or Coffee (limited)❌ Packaged soup and canned fruit juices, Caffeinated drinks, Alcohol, Carbonated beverages like Fanta, Pepsi, Limca, etc.
✔️ Flesh foods: Lean meat, Egg (white portion), Beef liver, Fish with edible bones like Pilchards, Sardine, Salmon, Tuna, Mackerel, Shrimp, Herring fish, Oysters❌ Fried or Processed meats, Prawns, Lobster, Crab, Lean beef, Pork, Lamb, Ham, Hot dogs, Goose, Duck, Bacon, Salami, Mutton, Sausages, Egg yolk, Turkey, Red meat, Organ part like liver, chest and kidney

  3. Skipping of meals should be avoided, especially the breakfast
