Changeri (Oxalis corniculata) is a medicinal plant with a sour taste. The common names of this herb are Creeping wood sorrel, Procumbent yellow, Indian penny wood, Creeping oxalis, etc. It shows good results in treating liver and stomach-related disorders. Its flowers are sour due to the presence of calcium oxalate and oxalic acid. The leaves of this herb are bitter and astringent in taste. Its self-pollinating flowers can grow fast in open areas but in countries like Canada, it is used as weed for glasshouses. It is edible and used as salad.

It is sour in taste and works as a stimulant, appetizer, and increases pitta dosha because of its hot potency. It helps to alleviate kapha and vata dosha and treats abdominal tumors, diarrhea, dysentery, piles, and tumors.

Morphological characteristics

Changeri (Oxalis Corniculata) is a perennial plant having primary slender roots. It is a slow-growing creeping weed mainly found in wasteland, gardens, and roadside. This herb grows up to the height of 30 cm whose stem is creeping and narrow about 40 cm in length. Its branches are erect and creeping.

The roots are fibrous covered with small hairs. The leaflets are three in number and heart-shaped that is joined to a long petiole. Leaves are 4 to 12 mm long and flowers are yellow and found in clusters of 1 to 6 petals. Its fruits are long and cylindrical and its seeds are egg-shaped and rough with dark red. Flowers bloom from July to December.

Habitat

Changeri (Oxalis Corniculata) is found in South Europe and tropical regions of America. It is also grown in countries like Japan, China, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Taiwan, India, etc. In India, it is found in wastelands, mountains, Gardens, Grasslands, roadsides, etc.
